Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) opened an office in Romania in 1994. Since then FES has been working with the aim to promote democracy, social justice and the rule of law in Romania. We provide political education and analysis through trainings, conferences, workshops, research, publications, expert meetings and international exchange programs.
Our three priorities are:
Even after joining the EU, Romania faces the challenge of consolidating democratic institutions and developing a strong and genuine democratic culture. FES contributes to this goal by supporting a process of modernization and democratization in political parties and the judiciary system, facilitating the political participation of NGOs and citizens and supporting projects for a conscious, inclusive and tolerant civil society.
FES supports its partners in developing and implementing policies for an economy which is sustainable, socially balanced and able to address the needs of all citizens. Input and projects in the area focus on topics such as reforming social security systems, improving labour market policies and fostering sustainable development. Additionally, FES runs programs which aim at promoting Social Democratic values.
Our projects in this area want to contribute to the modernization of Romania’s Trade Union movement, to the protecting labour rights and to provide an effective system of social dialogue. FES supports the Romanian Trade Unions by providing trainings and seminars for union members and facilitating the exchange of experience with European trade unions.
